How do you know your daily multi-vitamin is working?
There are so many vitamins on the market from multi-vitamins to individual vitamin types at varying price points. But how do you know the one you take is a “good one?”
I was in Sam’s Club recently and walked over to the bathrooms with our young son. The bathrooms are near the front of the store next to the glasses and prescription counter. On our way back around we walked through the personal care section and I was amazed at how many different types of vitamins, minerals and supplements they had.
Most people take a multi-vitamin but do you know if the one you’re taking is actually working?
In 2013 WedMD published an article that said vitamins were a waste of money.
The reason this article says vitamins don’t work is because the majority of them on the market today cannot be broken down by the body to deliver the actual vitamin to our cells. It simply passes through our mouth and out the other end.
Yet we continue to purchase and take vitamins every day making the vitamin and supplement industry a multi-BILLION dollar industry.
I admit for years I was a on and off person with vitamins. Sometimes I was really good about taking them but more often than not I did not. Most of the time I didn’t really notice a difference if I had taken them so after a while I would stop. Occasionally, I’d see the bottle in the cabinet and say I should finish taking these.
They are supposed to be good for you right?
My Experiment
It took me a long time to consider trying the doTERRA Life Long Vitality supplements. I was not convinced they were any different than any other vitamin I had ever taken before. I didn’t believe they would work and like the article says above I thought they were a waste of money.
Seriously, when I heard these supplements were doTERRA’s number one selling product over their oils I thought it was a lie. I really did think this was just a marketing ploy to get people using their supplements because once they did you would have a recurring customer who would buy them every month. Honest that’s what I thought and I would only briefly glance at them with any new customer I had.
I was finally willing to try the supplements when there was a special on them and then only because doTERRA offers a 100% money back guarantee. I could use the entire bottle and return it for a full refund. I fully intended and expected to return 3 empty bottles to them at the end of the month.
Fast forward 8 months
I have not missed a day taking the doTERRA supplements. Not one day.
After the first month of taking them, I can honestly say I noticed a difference. I felt good. The sluggishness I would feel at times during the day was not as bad. The biggest thing I noticed was the morning brain fog I always had wasn’t there anymore. The only thing I did different was start taking these supplements.
I didn’t return the bottles but rather I ordered another month’s supply and I added in the digestive support supplements. By the end of the second month I was feeling even better! It has been incredible.
One of the cool things about them is you don’t get that aftertaste or strange feeling like you’re going to be sick after taking a lot of other vitamins. That’s because the ingredients in these supplements are food based and not chemicals. That aftertaste and sick feeling you get sometimes is the result of your digestive system trying to break down a chemical and that gas from the process can be tasted in your mouth.
Sounds yummy right?
What Makes Them Different?
The Life Long Vitality (LLV) is 3 separate capsules and soft gels. You take 4 each per day, typically 2 of each in the morning and 2 in the evening or spread out during the day. For convenience I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night.
It sounds like a a lot I know but here’s why there are so many. They are loosely packed in the capsules so that when they go into your body, they can be broken down and delivered in the right increments to your cells. It’s incrementally taken to allow your body to use these vitamins in the right dose throughout the day.
Each supplement in this set has a distinct purpose.
Not a fan of taking pills? doTERRA figured that out too with the ability to take the Alpha CRS+ and MicroPlex VMZ and open the capsules to take the vitamins in a smoothie or in food. Again, the loose packing allows the vitamins to sprinkle out of the capsule so you can take them as you like.
In addition to the whole food based vitamins that are contained in these supplements, they also include doTERRA’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils like Frankincense, Clove, Thyme, Cumin, Wild Orange, Peppermint, Ginger, Caraway and German Chamomile. These oils are wonderful to take internally because of their benefits for supporting digestion, cellular health and rebuilding, blood pressure, and functions of the liver, lungs, eye and brain.
They are also non-GMO, gluten free and dairy free. There is a vegan version as well!
The cost of the supplements comes out to $2.65 per day. That’s pretty inexpensive to know that something is actually working to make you feel good. Besides that, it’s still less than a lot of the multi-vitamins and supplements on the market that just pass through you with no benefit.
There is a great e-book available that goes through these supplements in a lot more detail. It is free to download here: http://media.doterra.com/us/en/ebooks/lifelong-vitality.pdf
